The Myotonic breed is gaining attention for its combination of meat traits with reproductive efficiency, gentle nature, hardiness and it is increasingly recognized as an important genetic resource in the United States. As a Landrace breed, it is recovering and one of two native breeds of goats to America.  Goats are being used both as purebreds and for crossing with other breeds to add muscle mass within a commercial herd.
